YUPO

I painted this on Yupo paper. Yupo is a synthetic nonabsorbent paper made of recycled material. This was interesting to experiment with. The ink takes a bit longer to dry and therefore retains a workable quality for much longer than on regular watercolor paper. I shall master this stuff!

LIMITED TIME

My new song Decade is available as a free download. This song is an ode to the style of music making I started with 10 years ago when the original iceax songs were being made. I also incorporated just enough of my current approach to sound in the song. Heavy.

WORKIN' ON IT!

I've been making a lot of music along with visual art in recent days. There haven't been as many daily posts as I would like, but that's simply because I can't efficiently post fragments of songs that are themselves still in pieces. Just hold tight. The rule of 'one a day' is being allowed some mutation seeing as how I'm just generally more motivated lately. 'Art or die' may quickly become my new mantra.
In the mean time, here's something that greatly influences me:

BROTHERS

This is the finished piece for my friend Scott. I'm really happy how these siamese twins turned out.

FRENCH

This is work in progress for Mr. Scott French. Long overdue art from me to him.

RITUAL

YES! This Bienfang watercolor paper worked really well and has become one of my three favorite surfaces to work on.
This guy here is involving himself in a mysterious ritual. I hope he knows what he's getting himself into!

ACTION!

These are preliminary sketches for what I hope to be a 6" three dimensional figure at some point. The more you talk about these sorts of things, the less likely they are to manifest themselves in reality, so... Photobucket

DIFFERENT STROKES...

Not quite sure how I feel about this one. This was made on a third type of paper than those I have been using quite exclusively. The ink is super absorbed by this paper and has presented me with a new challenge to manipulate the ink. The ink also loses a lot of its vibrancy once dry. The final result is different, but I don't hate it... Although I do dislike those lines above the head.

FOLLOW UP/DOWN

Here is the follow up (still unfinished) to the perpetually wrong picture i started a few days ago.
I really like how crisp all of the line work is except for the blue guy down there. He officially blew (blue?) it for me.

KINGDOM

Another piece that will need a reworking. A 2nd version. Or maybe I'll finish this and be surprised by the results. Who knows- get off my back, man!

PERMANENT LANGUAGE

Lately I've been fascinated with the idea of art being Language; more importantly, an individual artist's style being characterized as a language. When an idea is being communicated either abstractly or literally in the arts, there should be present an almost tangible alien quality that makes the piece solely the creator's. "Almost" is important, because there should also be present something familiar to prod the observer to learn the language or even convince the observer that they may have already known the language in a previous life, so to speak.
This is a new tattoo I gave myself today. I see these shapes as individual artifacts that have been collected and set up in this order in which they are. Objects, symbols, significant and insignificant artifacts to be studied ever so curiously.

WELL OF KNOWLEDGE

Woah! took me long enough, but this result is positive and good. I had to take a step back and get on the right track.

HAYBURNER VIDEO

Today I got a LOT of arting done after a couple of days on hiatus from AlmostNaught. In addition to some inking (I'll post the artwork later today (Monday)) my friend Scott helped me make a music video for my song Hayburner (my songs available to buy here! Scott's incredible music available here.) Thanks Scott for having the patience to work with my vision!
Look and listen and enjoy.

PARKED

This chubby cheeked guy and his unfinished friend were drawn in Rittenhouse Park today on an art mission with my friend Kate!

EW! Then I had to go and add crap to this and ruin it. Meh... They can't all be winners. The chubby-cheeked guy will make a comeback in another piece. Maybe the other guy will too; just needs a little work.

BLACK ARM

This guy is holding a bell jar or something. No confetti's on here just yet. I stopped working on this one multiple times and had to keep convincing myself that it was worth my time to complete. What do you think?

And this was what has been added the following day. The background color changed just because of the environment in which I photographed the image.
